Wendy Simms of Nanaimo finishes seventh at cyclo-cross world championship

Wendy Simms of Nanaimo, B.C., finished seventh in the cyclo-cross world cycling championships Sunday. Hanka Kupfernagel of Germany won the race in 45 minutes 15.55 seconds, with Simms coming 1:04.01 behind.

“I had a good start and was in the top five going into the first corner,” Simms said. “I was feeling pretty comfortable and then Hanka caught up to us and started driving the pace. I’m pretty pleased to see that I can ride up at the front with the best riders now.”
