Yukon Quest winner repeats at Iditarod
From the Vancouver Province – Alaskan Lance Mackey claimed his second straight victory in the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race, completing the 1,100-mile (1,770-kilometre) route from Anchorage to Nome in nine days, 11 hours, 46 minutes and 48 seconds. Mackey, who crossed the finish line with his nine dogs yesterday was trailed by 2006 winner Jeff King, who arrived in Nome shortly after afterwards, according to the Iditarod website. Ramey Smith was leading the 79 mushers still on the course, while 14 have dropped out of the race. Mackey is the only dog-sledder ever to win the Iditarod in the same year as the Yukon Quest, another endurance event. He won that event last month for the fourth time.
