Canadian on 12 year walk around world, has 4 years to go
Trainharder.com recently came across this story about a Canadian man who is currently on a walk around the world. This raised our interest and we sought to see who else is currently walking around the world… here are summaries from a few world walkers:
- Canadian Jean Beliveau is currently 8 years into his 75,000-kilometre (46,500-mile) trek around the world. "One day I just started thinking ‘how many days would it take to walk to New York, to Mexico?’ and the idea of walking round the world just started from there." He left his Montreal home in August 2000 with a converted baby stroller packed with a tent, a few clothes and 3,000 dollars in cash. Since then, he has walked around 50,300 kilometres through the United States, through central and South America. From there he went to Africa where he walked up the east coast and then travelled to Europe and on to Asia. For more information on his journey you can visit his website - wwwalk.org .
-
Karl Bushby, a 39-year-old ex-paratrooper from England, is currently 10 years into his trek around the world. It will take him over fourteen years to complete and will cover over 36,000 Miles. Karl is hoping to become the first person to complete an unbroken round the world walk. Karl has already walked through South and Central America, North America and over the Bering Strait into Russia. Karl’s website .
- Gary Hause, an American who is augmenting his trek with some biking. Gary is over 40,000 miles into his journey and is currently getting ready to leave on the next section of his walk which will take him along the coast of Australia. Gary’s website .
- Arthur Blessitt is another world walker and has perhaps walked the most out of everyone. He is listed in the Guinness World Records for the ‘World’s longest walk’. He has been walking since Christmas Day, December 25, 1969, and is currently 37,910 miles (60,997 k.m.) into his journey. Arthur is unique from the other walkers by the fact that he always carries a 12 foot cross. Arthur’s website .
