National XC Championships Writeup

Trainharder’s own star blogger Marilyn Arsenault has just posted a writeup from last weekend’s National XC Championships in Stratford, Ontario (see below). Marilyn came in 6th overall and has qualified for the Canadian National Team and possibly a spot at next March’s World XC Championships in Ammon, Jordan. Way to go Mar!

Juice was a real sweet-heart and got up with me Thursday morning to do an easy run before I had to catch my flight. We were running along the Goose and passing Swan Lake by 6:20am. It was still dark but there were quite a few cyclists on the path heading to work. It was kind of creepy seeing their headlights gliding in the air towards us. We had fun and my legs felt good. The flight to Toronto was fun. I sat beside Swanny (Kris Swanson) and we yakked about running and training nearly the whole way…couple of nut-cases. David was there at the airport to take me to Stratford. I stayed there overnight and got a great visit in with him and Barb! I slept in on Friday morning and boy it felt good to have had such a great sleep! Barb drove me to Guelph mid-day. Keith was waiting for me in the lobby of the hotel because the team decided to leave early and he thought I’d want some company, which was nice of him! I dropped my bag off in the hotel room and we jogged over to the course. It was cold but not as bad as last year. I spent the rest of the afternoon relaxing, watching TV and sending emails. A big group of us went out for dinner at Atmosphere, the same spot where we ate last year. As we were eating, it started to snow…a lot…We were all anxiuosly looking out the window thinking the worst.

Race Day! I had a terrible sleep last night. I tossed and turned and was thankful that I had good sleep in the night before! The room was way too hot. I am used to sleeping with our sliding door open. I like a cold room while snuggling under a warm duvet! My room-mate Rachel  said she too has had better nights. I was thrilled to look outside though and see blue skies!
