General Race Info:
The Inside Scoop from the Race Director

December 3, 2008 – NEW SHORT COURSE ADDED — In addition to the 50km full course, we are adding a short "Sport" Course to this year’s race. With a distance of 30km, this race will appeal to the beginner racer or the racer who is a bit behind in their training.

Event Description

Our series wraps up in the Comox Lake area (Village of Cumberland). This is an adventure racer’s dream destination as it is filled with world-class single-track trails. Comox Lake itself is an excellent venue for a paddling and staging area.

This venue has plenty of interesting history and we hope to add to that history as we stage our final race of the year here in the beautiful Comox Valley. The Mind Over Mountain Adventure Race at Comox Lake will feature kayaking, mountain biking, trail running, and mystery events. It will be a test for both the seasoned race pro and the dedicated novice.

Make sure you plan on staying the Saturday night as this race features a ‘not-to-be-missed’ dinner and after party.

Coming soon…
How to get there Located 1.25 hours north of Nanaimo. Head north along the new Island Highway and follow the signs to Cumberland. If coming from the Mainland, take BC ferries from Tsawwassen or West Vancouver to Nanaimo.

For ferry information visit www.bcferries.com or call 1-888-223-3779. The ferries may be busy this weekend so you might want to make reservations (only $17 per vehicle).

Seattle racers can catch the ferry from Anacortes to Victoria and drive up the Island Highway to Cumberland (3 hours) . Visit http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/ferries/index.cfm for more information.

BY AIR: Westjet Airlines will fly you into directly into Comox which is 30 minutes from the race start/finish. Click here for map from the airport . There are direct flights from all of Canada’s major cities, as well as, from the US (LA, Vegas, Tampa, etc). Check the website for more info www.westjet.com . Once you fly in, you can rent a vehicle from Budget Car and Truck Rental at the airport and drive to the race start.

Accommodations Mt. Washington – Since the post-race dinner and awards banquet will be held up at Mt. Washington, we highly recommend that all out-of-town racers try to book accommodations on the mountain for Saturday night. Condos are very inexpensive at this time of the year and there are many places that sleep 6-8 people and rent for $50-100 per night, if you book early. It’s a beautiful place to spend the weekend. Go to www.mtwashington.ca to make a reservation.

We also recommend that racers consider staying at the Riding Fool Hostel in Cumberland for Friday night since that is where Friday night registration will be and it’s minutes away from the race start/finish line. The Riding Fool Hostel is right above Dodge City Cycles where you can conveniently get your bike checked or pick up any last minute race supplies.

We also recommend the Cumberland Lake Park Campground for a great place to camp on Friday night.

Other Accommodation Options:

For a more comprehensive list visit Comox Valley Tourism.

Kayak Rentals It is highly recommended that you reserve your kayak as soon as possible as they book very quickly.

* Because the Sport Course starts two hours after the Enduro course, the kayak companies are allowed to DOUBLE BOOK their kayaks. Let them know which course you are racing and be sure you are booking for the right race.
