Kick start your 2009 fitness goals

It’s a cruel irony that as people are setting fitness resolutions for the New Year the outside conditions aren’t very motivating. It is hard to pry yourself off the couch when it’s either raining or snowing, and darkness still shrouds a chief part of the day. Convincing yourself that another day off won’t make a difference is much easier when it is cold and wet, and you are tired and hungry.

The key to fueling your motivation enough to get out the door is to find a goal that will get you going. This is where the TC10K can help.

Make 2009 the year that you join Victoria’s biggest community fitness event. Complete the 10k for the first time or challenge your personal best. Lose that weight you put on during the Holiday Season getting ready for this spring’s race.

Not sure how?  We can help!

Perhaps you’ve never run, or maybe you are not sure how to get faster than last year. We can help!  Check out our new website during the week of January 12th for great training tips, a variety of running schedules and registration details for TC10K Run/Walk Clinics. We give you all of the support that you need to reach your goals.

The best way to get out the door on a cold evening is to join others for a workout. Beginning January 17th, TC10K clinics kick into action at various recreation centres.  Meet runners and walkers from across the city for weekly coached run and walks. Enjoy the camaraderie of working with others who have similar goals.

If a clinic is not your style, then you can follow one of the on-line schedules. Select the schedule that fits your needs and fitness background, and begin. If questions arise, you can consult our on-line coach, double Olympic marathoner Bruce Deacon. Just email Bruce at coach@tc10.ca for help.

Training Clinics

The official TC10K Training Clinics are back and they are better than ever. This is a gradual 14 week program for both runners and walkers and starts in the middle of January. Run or Walk but get off the couch and be seen at the 20th Annual TC10K.

 The TC10K Needs YOU

Do you have a passion for running or walking? Would you like to share this passion with others? Then the TC10K needs you.

The TC10K Training Clinics need enthusiastic and motivated Run Coordinators and Run Leaders to lead a 14-week training program for novice walkers and runners, whose ultimate goal is participating in the 20th Annual TC10K. For many this will be their first race and so this is a unique opportunity to pass on your passion and enthusiasm while helping others achieve their fitness goals. All Coordinators and Leaders will receive training and assistance in setting up the programs, and in return will receive:

TC10K Registration

  • 14 week training program
  • race shirt
  • technical training shirt
  • a graduated plan for walkers or runners of all levels
  • expert training tips
  • the support and encouragement of experienced leaders
  • a run/walk symposium where topics such as footwear, nutrition, hydration and injury prevention will be discussed
  • group support and camaraderie

The clinics will be coordinated through recreation centres in Victoria and the Capital Regional District. This is a great opportunity to get involved with one of the largest 10K races in North America, and make a difference to others.
