Canada still leads the way after Day 7 of the PanAm Games

panamWith an extra 13 medals from today’s PanAm Games in Cycling Track, Shooting, Squash, Swimming and Wrestling, Canada is still at the top of the medal charts with an impressive 45 gold medals, ahead of the USA and Brazil.

Ellie Black, gymnast from Nova Scotia, is the star of these games with a total of five medals, three golds, one silver and one bronze.  Her next challenge will be the World Championships in Glasgow in October, where she will face even tougher competition.

The youngest Canadian athlete, 17-year old West Vancouver swimmer Emily Overholt, had a great come back today with a Gold medal in the 400m Freestyle after her disappointment at losing the Gold in the 400m Individual Medley.  Emily’s time would have been the fourth-fastest in the world this year, as well as a national and Pan Am record!
