Jeff Browning from Missouri, brought up running around a 700-acre farm, added 1st place at HURT 100 to his accolade of titles a couple of weeks ago. Balancing a wife and three kids, and a new diet, Jeff cruised into the lead, leaving behind course record holder and local BC-boy Gary Robbins, and Avery Collins from Colorado. This grueling 100 miler. on similar terrain to our north shore trails, is a huge test of endurance, adaptation to hot, humid weather, and for Jeff, to his new Paleo, low carb, high fat, moderate protein diet. A Paleo diet is a diet based on the types of foods presumed to have been eaten by early humans, consisting chiefly of meat, fish, vegetables, and fruit, and excluding dairy or grain products and processed food. It seems that it worked for Jeff.
His blog post is interesting reading.
