Check Out These New Athlete Blogs

The Long Road – the blog of former Olympic marathon runner and Pan Am Games Silver Medalist Bruce Deacon, who now resides in Coquitlam. Bruce is currently rehabbing from injury and is using his new blog to document the process.

My Mountain Biking Adventures - Teresa Edgar is a Comox Valley mountain biker who writes about her mountain biking adventures.

Running, Rocks and Rock – Steve has a passion for both geology and trail running, and hopes to soon run the Wasatch or Hard Rock 100 milers.

Trail Tales -Colin Wilson’s blog contains a wealth of information for the Comox Valley mountain biker. One of his currently projects includes mapping the local trails.

  • Running Gay – the blog of J. D. MacDonald, who lives and trains in Vancouver. J started racing when he was 21 and over the years has run the National Championships, won team championships and has kept getting faster. He hopes his blog will bring a different voice to running from a gay perspective.
  • Steve’s Trek Across Canada – we don’t really know what’s this blog is about but Steve is a runner who appears to want to run across Canada.

A New Running Blog

We have just discovered a great new running blog… it’s called Pistol Runs and it’s the online training journal of Peter Holmes.

Peter moved to Vancouver in March from the UK and is currently training with the Vancouver Falcons Running Club. He plans on hitting some 5 and 10k races over the summer and will use his blog to document his running experiences in and around BC.

The Training Blogs section of this site has recently been cleaned up. The biggest change is the removal of each sub-sport page, now every single blog is listed on the main page. This should now allow for easier browsing.

Lauren Groves Blog

Lauren ’s career highlights include being named to the Canadian Olympic team in 2008, winning her first National Championship in 2006, reaching a career high World Cup ranking of third after the 2006 Edmonton World Cup and again after 2006 World Championships and finishing in the top-8 in first 10 races of the 2006 season.

Following is an excerpt from a recent posting titled “How to get off track”:

I did one of those “fit it in” runs last night, squeezing a short one in between work and grocery shopping.

On time-starved evenings like that when an excuse is as convenient and tempting as a Kit Kat at the check-out line, I look for an extra nudge.

I chose to run the Cedar Hill Golf Course chip trail, which I love despite its hills and bark mulch that is attracted to white socks like steel shavings to a magnet. The bonus is that it’s close to a grocery story.

Starting from behind the Cedar Hill rec centre, I suddenly became self conscious that a room full of bored treadmill runners would be staring at my backside as I attempted to run up the first hill.

New Trail/Ultra Runner Blog

245kms of Sand

This is the blog of Ian Cunliffe, an elementary school teacher working in North Vancouver who is training for the 2009 Marathon De Sables (MdS). The MdS is a 6 day/243km endurance race across the Sahara Desert in Morocco, normally taking place at the end of March/beginning of April. Ian is using the race as an opportunity to help raise awareness and support for child refugees from Darfur, specifically to raise money for UNICEF, which is currently funding a number of schools in refugee camps for these children in crisis. Be sure to check it out and support Ian in his cause!
